Ask The MFA A-Listers: Celene Chen - COT

We met up with Celene Chen, to find out more about how her passion, perspective and philosophy on life has helped her achieve success in this industry. Not forgetting to extend our congratulations on becoming a Court of the Table member of Million Dollar Round Table!

Who has inspired you in your life and why?

The late Mrs Lee Kuan Yew - such an intelligent, capable and powerful lady, yet so humble, low profile and family-oriented.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

I would just stay in Singapore, because as long as money is not a concern, this place already has everything - from the most luxurious items to the most exclusive services, as well as a wide variety of food available and access to the most advanced medical services - in the most efficient and safe environment. I am never short of anything in Singapore, maybe except for snow!

What is a skill you'd like to learn and why?

The skill to have wise and accurate foresight, so I can make my dollars grow efficiently and maximally.

What do you do on your days off?

Spend time with family/friends or exercise.

When did you realise that you wanted to be a financial services consultant? What has changed since you first started?

When I was in my second year in university, I decided to gain exposure to a variety of trades so I could decide what the best job fit for me; all so that I need not waste time searching for one upon graduation.

As for what has changed, I would love to have more time now! “Extra” time to revise school work, time to do street prospecting and meet clients, time to attend trainings and time to rest! I have begun to be more thankful and appreciative of my time, my good health, and all the opportunities I have enjoyed!

What was the first assignment that has left the biggest mark on you?

The first case closed from a stranger during street prospecting. It broke my mental barrier that it was impossible to sell insurance on the spot to anyone anywhere.

Define what being an A-Lister means:

To me, being an A-Lister means having the diligence and being committed to work; being grateful for and sincere to clients. Most importantly, it means we must always remember not to take for granted the freedom and flexibility we are given, so that we do not waste our precious time and opportunities.

What makes you different from your peers?

No one is exactly the same. We all have our unique ways of connecting with our clients, bosses, colleagues, and reaching niche client bases. Different positioning and opportunities have made me different from my peers, I guess!

How do you define success?

Looking back without regrets and having the ability to smile and feel thankful paves the way to success.

What’s your philosophy in life?

Be kind and life will treat you kindly.

What is the best thing about being a Court of the Table member?

I am honoured to become a source of pride for my bosses and the organisation.
